Elspeth Owen

Elspeth Owen is a ceramic artist who has taken part in a rich and dedicated career. In her 85 years, Elspeth has been involved in a convent education, several waves of feminism, motherhood, a spell on the other side of the world, summer schools in the open university, the women’s Peace camp at Greenham common, long-distance walking adventures, Extinction rebellion, pot-luck suppers and numerous ceramic shows in galleries, craft markets and open studios. Her work is now scattered around the world in public and private places, waiting to be held.

Elspeth works with clay in a fluid way, often without a set plan of what the outcome is going to be, she is extremely connected to her work as a result. Elspeth is currently exploring the ideas around the end of a career, what to do with the leftovers of a working life and what footprint we leave on the world.

About the Artist Talks

During the 2023 British Ceramic Biennial you will have the chance to meet, ask questions and hear from some of the talented artists exhibiting with us this year. The Artist Talks will provide a unique insight into the work and careers of some of the artists and the work they have created especially for the 2023 Biennial.

Each talk will be 30 minutes, followed by a 15-minute Q&A. They will all take place in All Saints Church. Ticket fees are pay-what-you-can.

We will record each Artist Talk and publish them on our website over the coming months.
