Jasmine Simpson, Award 2023 Finalist
We are honoured to highlight the work of BCB 2023 Award finalist, Jasmine Simpson who exhibited as part of Award at All Saints Church for the 2023 British Ceramics Biennial, and has since continued to evolve as an artist.
There are devils in my house by Jasmine Simpson is inspired by 16th Century Hellmouth fireplaces. These often featured ceramic sculptures of little devils. Amidst a mental health crisis, we are asked to face our own demons and address how we can move beyond them.
Speaking about her experience and how it has impacted her, Jasmine shares:
Participating in the British Ceramics Biennial was a transformative experience for my practice. Being shortlisted for the Award not only validated my work but also significantly expanded my exposure within the ceramics community and beyond. The platform provided by the Biennial introduced my work to a wider audience and opened up opportunities, such as my collaboration with B Arts and Stoke-on-Trent City Council with my public art installation ‘Cobalt Chronicles’. And the visibility gained through this prestigious event led to my feature in Ceramics Now magazine as artist of the month (July 2024), which further amplified my reach and recognition within the field.
