Extended Exhibitions from BCB 19!

British Ceramics Biennial might have concluded for the time being but we have some good news… Middleport Pottery and The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery will be extending their exhibitions until 17th November. So whether you didn’t get chance to visit or you’ll like to see them again.. this is your chance!

Cultural Icons at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery takes inspiration from the history and tradition of the Staffordshire flat-back, once produced by most of the potteries in the region.

For this project, curator Tessa Peters invited figurative ceramicists Joanne Ayre, Christie Brown, Claire Curneen, Stephen Dixon, Ingrid Murphy and Matt Smith to respond to the historic flat-back portrait figures in the extensive collections of the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. The resulting artworks comment on aspects of mainstream culture, society and politics today. The exhibition also includes stunning drawings and prints by artist Dr W John Hewitt and a selection of Victorian flatbacks from the museum’s collections.

The artists were also commissioned to provide a related design for production as a limited edition by communities of makers in Stoke-on-Trent which are also on display in the exhibition. Head to the event page for more information.

Resonating Spaces is an experience through temporary structures, interventions and and atmospheric soundscapes at Middleport Pottery.

The iconic interior of the bottle kiln, hidden corners and traces of former factory buildings have become contemplative spaces where visitors experience the layered qualities of this extraordinary site of living heritage.

You might have visited Resonating Spaces during the incredible focus weekend during 28th/29th September – well if not, now’s your chance! Head to the event page for more information and to view the film that’s been produced by Kieran Hanson at Kenawa Films.
