Associate Artist
Sarah Fraser has a socially engaged practice that focuses on relationships between people and clay as a material within social, environmental, and political contexts. Sustainability and the imperative to reduce the ecological impact of ceramics is integral to all her work. Her role as an Associate Artist with BCB and commissions with other art organisations in Stoke-on-Trent have enabled Sarah to foster a practice rooted in people and place, and to explore the area’s rich ceramic heritage, furthering her particular interest in architectural ceramics.
Alongside her engaged practice, Sarah continues to develop her own work as a ceramic artist. She studied visual arts at the University of South Africa and has a PGCE in lifelong learning from the University of Westminster. She developed her clay skills through independent study, use of shared studios in London and Manchester and work-based learning at Clay Studio in Manchester where she worked as head studio technician and tutor. In 2018, Sarah co-founded the shared studio, Manchester Ceramics Collective.
