Factory – Imposter Syndrome Makes us Human
Free
(Optional) Breakout Group 11:30-12:15 – additional registration required, please read on for more information.
Imposter syndrome makes us human – here’s how to make friends with it.
In this workshop we will cover the basics of imposter syndrome including:
- Why do I feel like this? What imposter syndrome is…
- How to recognise it (and not get scared by it)
- Overcoming the barriers – why it happens and how to make friends with it
- How to actively work with it
If art and creativity are naturally human then so is imposter syndrome. It’s not something to be ashamed or scared of, and it definitely doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. Often it means you’re doing something right.
The workshop will also include activity ideas which you can utilise when you need to keep your imposter syndrome quiet, or when you need a push in the right direction. It will also include honest stories and insight into the artistic mindset that you may be able to resonate with in all areas of life.
The great thing about imposter syndrome is there are so many things to do about it… and none of them have to be scary or overwhelming…
It’s time to tackle being frozen by fear and turn it into creative action.
Who is this for?
This Workshop is for:
- People who feel they have imposter syndrome and want to better understand it, how to use it and how to overcome the barriers.
- Students or people who are early in their career and want to start building a tool kit to help manage a sustainable career.

Who’s delivering?
Gemma-Louise Walsh – Writer, researcher and creative
Gemma is a potteries girl born and bred who started writing her first story when she was six years old… and hasn’t really stopped since. She trained as a journalist (because she’s fascinated by people) at Staffordshire University before undertaking her masters in Creative Practise. This is where she fell in love with the creative process, what other artists do, and the fascination around how they can have more fun in creating. She still writes her own stories by day and supports local creative community education. She’s still fascinated by people and what they do creatively.
