Accolade – in conversation with Lawrence Epps and Professor David Spiegelhalter
Free
British Ceramics Biennial is delighted to presents a conversation with artist Lawrence Epps and statistician and author Professor David Spiegelhalter to discuss Epps’ recent work for BCB19, Accolade – 28th September 3pm – 4pm at the China Hall.
The event will explore various themes around Accolade including Epps’ and Spiegelhalter’s collaboration to develop an algorithm and questionnaire to calculate personalised prices in a playful contemplation of a fairer world of art pricing.
Raising the question as to whether ‘hard-earned’ success is simply a matter of chance, Epps playfully re-organises the oblique mechanics of the art-market by calculating prices for his works using a means-testing questionnaire. The algorithm, developed in collaboration with statistician Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter, calculates personally adjusted prices to account for life’s unfairness.
