BCB 2023 Artist Talks – Carrie Reichardt
Every biennial, Award artists sit down and tell us about their background and creative practice. They take us on a journey through submission, selection, and presentation of their work. In this series, we look back at artists from the 2023 Biennial as we await the announcement of the Award artists for 2025.
Mad in Stoke by Carrie Reichardt
A 1969 Ford Zodiac car covered in mosaic tiles inspired by Stoke-on-Trent’s rich and radical nightlife history. The focus will be on Shelley’s nightclub in Longton – the heart of the house and rave scene in the early 90s. Carrie worked with a local manufacturer, Duchess China 1888, to source patterns and create bespoke pieces for the mosaic. Working through blazing heat and pouring rain, Carrie and her team cut, arranged, glued and grouted hundreds of tiles. Plus, hear about the nail-biting journey from London to Stoke-on-Trent and an equally tense install.
